Welcome to our blog!
We are an interesting and diverse group of senior primary students in Sydney, Australia. This blog will tell our readers about what we are doing, thinking and feeling throughout the year. We'd love you to come on the journey with us!!
We are excited about communicating with a class of Year 2 students in Bedfordshire, in England. They have sent us questions about Australia and we are emailing them individually. They are very cute.
We are also establishing email links with Year 10 students at our local high school. They are going to be our mentors and give us advice on how to improve our work.
The homework our teacher gives us is interesting and fun to do. I love it! C.Z
We are doing research in the library about an aspect of gold in Australia. Our librarian created a "Wallwisher Wall" on the web and we are posting sticky notes on it about our ideas for topics. www.wallwisher.com is fun to use.
Our teacher/librarian has created an interesting blog with good links. Check it out at http://mrstandict.weebly.com
Wallwisher is a great site and is easy to use! K.D

We made a bunch of origami flowers to give to our principal. C.Y. and B.K. taught us to make them. We will be doing more origami on Wednesday afternoons. K.D is going to teach us a heart that she learnt at Japanese school and C.O. is going to teach us another thing.

Today we heard that our class is going to be entering a competition. It's about what is important that everyone should care about and that we should not let it happen. S.V.

This week we are writing and performing a play for homework. I am having a lot of fun on it. We had to include a denim vest in some way and it is really interesting.

Today we had a guy come to talk to us about banking. Sean was from the Start Smart programme and he told us about interest - how to earn it on the money we save and how you have to pay it if you borrow money or use a credit card. He also gave us tips on how to be a smart internet shopper.

Hooray! We finally finished our bookmarks. They are arrow shaped and took 29 folds to make. They were quite complicated, but we did it! Chris was a patient teacher. Thanks Chris. We'll put the photos on the origami page.

Finally! Yesterday we finally finished creating our arrow-shaped book marks. It was so difficult. I had to always ask C.O to help me on nearly every step (how did he know how to fold all the complicated things?) but we finished it anyway. Well mine didn't turn out accurate and it was all crumpled. Thanks for teaching us the book marks anyway C.O!

Today we all got a surprise when an envelope addressed to us with the Royal Mail emblem on it came to our school office. We didn't think the Queen was writing to us, so we guessed that it was from our pen-pals in Bedfordshire in England. This was much more exciting than a letter from the Queen! Their letters were great! They had all done their best writing and we were thrilled to get them. We took the letters home to show our families. Tomorrow, we will write replies. Our pen-pals also email us, which is fun, too. We think the Class 2 children in Mrs B's class are COOL!
9.3.10
Last week, our homework was to write a play with two characters. This week, we are performing them for the class. They are very good!
10.3.10
It was grey and overcast and sprinkling with rain but luckily, we got to have our AFL Clinic today! We had Scott as our coach and we learnt about hand passes, punts (kicks), goal scoring etc. We played some games and had a really fun time.
16.3.10
Yesterday, some of us got our first emails from our Maths mentors at our local high school. They are in Year 10 and are VERY good mathematicians! It was exciting. We are looking forward to emailing them and learning more about them.... and about Maths!! We are good mathemeticians too but we still have a lot to learn.
We have been writing letters and postcards to our penpals in England and we are just about ready to post them. Some of our class went to a School Leaders conference in the city yesterday with the Deputy Principal and today, some of our excellent swimmers are competing in a Zone swimming carnival. We wish them good luck.

Today is St Patrick's Day. This is an Irish celebration. We have been doing work on GOLD - the history of gold in Australia, its uses etc.
We are holding a Mobile Phone Muster in our school. We collect old mobiles to hand in for recycling. The plastic, metals and batteries are recycled, especially the precious metals like gold and silver.

Also, today most of the Year 6 people in our class did the Selective Test!!! L.B
We have a competition at our school. It is the Public Speaking competition. It is optional whether you want to join it or not. I wanted to. Today was our first meeting. I was very nervous but I found out it wasn't so bad after all. I hope I do very well. A.G.

We have been writing biographies about Stephen Wiltshire for homework this week. Before Monday I had never heard of him. We have been hearing from some of our year 10 mentors. We are also going to have penpals from Auburn North PS.
C.O
Well, we FINALLY posted all our snail mail stuff to our penfriends in Bedfordshire! It took us all week because people were away at leadership days, or away at swimming carnivals, or away at Selective High School tests or away at...... ;-)
Eventually the parcel made it to the Post Office though. We hope they will enjoy getting our letters as much as we enjoyed getting theirs! We know they read our blog sometimes - so here is a blog HELLO as well. It is still hot here (34 deg C), even though it is officially autumn.

We have got lots of different homework this year. We have written biographies, plays, made powerpoint presentations and done math sums. This week we are doing problem solving. C.O
Today we listened to a song called "Gotta Keep Reading". The tune is the same as "I Gotta Feeling". It was sort of funny when we sung it. Today we got our homework. It was looking difficult because they were hard brainstrains. Brainstrains are problems that involved lots of work.R.K

I have written two new stories called The Strangers and The Great War, on the WRITING WE ARE PROUD OF page. I hope you enjoy the stories!E.D
Today we played a kind of badminton for sport. Some people had good rallies but some of us still need to get better at it! :-)

Today, the whole school did a walk and wheelathon and it was very exhausting! The kindies did 5 laps, the years 1 and 2 did 10 laps, the years 3 and 4 did 15 laps and the years 5 and 6 had to do 20! I didn't get to finish it because I got too exhausted and got a bit sick, so I only did 10 laps. Some really sporty people had done more than 30 laps! We probaly have to do it again next year.

Our teacher has made accounts for us on Smartkiddies which is a maths website. You can play math games, do worksheets and earn rewards. You have a character which you can edit whenever you want to change it's look. The only bad thing about Smartkiddies is that there is only a certain number of games you can play each day. C.O.
Today we had our Easter Raffle it was sort of boring and fun. I won a prize of chocolates. That was fun. I'm going to write a story on the Writing We Are Proud Of page hope you see it.R.K

Today was our celebration of Aboriginal / indigenous culture. We had a storytelling performance called Bama Balas (Phil and Dion) from North Queensland and the Torres Strait. Then we had a really interesting talk by one of our friend's grandfather. He brought wonderful carved emu eggs with him. They were really, really good. Then we had a performance called Gindaja, by Sean who comes from Cairns. Below is a photo of L.C's and D.C's grandfather and underneath that is Sean playing what we call the didgeridoo, but he called it a different name in his language.
31.3.10
We painted boomerangs to take home using aboriginal style motifs.
Today, our school had aborigines come and tell us about different things. We had lots of fun and we painted our boomerangs. S.C

Yesterday was fantastic because I learned lots of new things such as how to play a didgeridoo. It was really fun painting boomerangs. Mine was based on harmony. C.O
Today the head teacher of the school in Bedfordshire where our penpals come from visited us. She was very nice and brought Easter cards from our penpals. They were like eggs and when we opened them, there was a picture of our penpal inside!
She brought a DVD of Class 2's "Australian" assembly. The kids sang Waltzing Matilda, Tie Me Kangaroo Down Sport etc, told facts about Australian animals and did an Aboriginal style dance. They even mentioned us!!! They were excellent! We made an afternoon tea for Mrs H. The picture is below. It had lots of Australian foods and biscuits. Our principal went to get Mrs H and brought her to our school.

We are using www.smartkiddies.com.au to practise our Maths work. Our teacher has put the whole class in and we each have our own password. Our teacher can set homework on the website and she can see how we are doing. It is fun and you can score points and get virtual money and go the the rewards room and buy virtual stuff.

It has been a busy week. We started lessons again on Tuesday, after two and a half weeks holiday. We have been doing lots of assessment tests and trials for winter sports teams. Today was our Anzac Day ceremony at school. The ANZAC Day march in the city will be on Sunday. It is Stephen Wiltshire's birthday tomorrow. Who is Stephen? Check out our Stephen Wiltshire page, up on the menu bar. He's coming to Australia, but he is delayed because planes can't fly because of a volcanic eruption in Iceland.
27.4.10 Today in class we started our Math Challenge, we were allowed to be in groups of two or three! Today we only did the first part of the Maths Challenge booklet. They were fun! Soon we will be, starting Murder Under the Microscope. C.S
28.4.10
Stephen Wiltshire is HERE and we watched him by webcam on our IWB. People kept getting in the way when they were looking at him drawing. Sometimes their heads blocked him completely! He was on A Current Affair last night. He went up to the top of Centrepoint Tower and looked out over Sydney.
We did the second Maths Challenge today and we also did some verses to go on cards for people in a nursing home for Mother's Day. Mrs B. makes them presents and will put the cards with the presents.

Tomorrow is 1st of May. 1st of May is my exam day. The exam is my fifth grade flute exam and Iam very nervous. I expect for a good result becauseI have spent a lot of time practising my flute. 5/6R and everyone please wish me good luck.
Today, the 3rd of May, is our cross country. I hope today's weather is fine. (Not too cold nor not too hot.) C.S
Later that day........ :-) We got the Cross Country Carnival finished just before lunch. It looked like it was going to rain, but it held off. The sky is grey, so it might rain this afternoon.
On the weekend, our teacher went to Customs House to see the Stephen Wiltshire Exhibition. Sadly, Stephen had finished his drawing of Sydney (below), so he wasn't there. Mrs M was too late! CL from our class went at the beginning of the exhibition, before Stephen came. Well, at least we saw him a bit on the webcam.... he was only drawing "live" in school time, so we couldn't get there.

I'm really excited about Murder Under the Microscope (MuM) because it has finally started! Our class have been doing research and done some really good powerpoint presentations about the crime sites. Now we're starting on the victims. This is so cool! This is my second time doing Murder and I loved it when I did it the first time.I hope we puzzle things out quite well and get the correct answers. The crime site that I researched about was the Tully River in the place Tully Heads.
Also, I would like to recommend a book to you called The Shoe-Horn Sonata. I haven't read all of it yet, but so far, the book is really good. If you would like to see what the book is about, then go to the 'Great Writing' page and read the review I wrote about it.C.Z

The villains have been announced in Murder Under The microscope! Today at 12 o'clock, the clues start. The "murder" happened at about 5.30 am today.

We have a pretty good idea who the victim is and what the crimesite is now. However, we're still confuzzled when it comes to the villian. Apparently Floater is Agent X!

Last Saturday, my Chinese class and I went to Strathfield Girls High School to do this competition where we have to recite these Chinese poems to the 3 judges. You get $100 and a trophy if your group came first,$75 and a trophy if second and $50 and a trophy if third. There were meant to be 6 groups in the competition, but only 4 came. That meant 1 of the teams had to be the odd one out. Well unfortunately, our team was the odd one out. Even though we lost, we are going to try again next year. I think we didn't win because we only had 6 people in the group and the sound wasn't strong enough. The biggest group had 15 people! I thought that the team that came second should have come first and the team that came third should've come second and the group that came first should have come third or had nothing. Anyway, that's my opinion and I can't change the result. C.Z
31.5.10- Murder Under The Microscope
We now have 4 villians, 1 victim and now probably 1 crimesite. We have been excluding as you can see. It's getting harder but we can cope with it still. Students from our class are getting interesting ideas of what they are. It is really challenging. S.V
Hey blog viewers, you know what B.K said at his blog on the 28th of may, well he solved that problem. Any way, I have writen some stuff on the Origami Designs page. Why not check it out?

Hi! As you know my class is all busy with murder under the microscope, I did a test 2 weeks ago at my tutoring school and the results came out this week. It wasn't that good. I got 8 out of 10 for maths. 7 out of 10 for general ability and 7 out of 10 for English. Last weekend graded in karate to a black tip. Today at the school hall K.D performed her voilin. Many classes came to watch. She performed at the Opera house and peolpe had to pay to watch it yesturday but it was a 100% discount for my school. I think it was fantastic.

Yesterday, my family and I went to the city with many other people to Walk With Christ. I got there on a coach with many other people from my church. At 2:30p.m. we started at Lang park and walked to St Mary's Cathedral, and just when we were about to start it started to rain. We were lucky my mum had brought raincoats. All the people without a umbrella or a raincoat got soaked. We got there and we went in and met the cardinal and talked a bit and then we went back to where the coaches were waiting, we got on and rode back to church where our car was. We got into my car and drived safely back home. C.S.

Hi guys!
Long time no writing! Today we had our athletics carnival. It was pretty fun. Me, B.K and K.D played murder in the bath! It was really fun. We were getting fed on junkfood although I didn't have that much On Wednesday It was the ICAS Science comp. I reckon that it was pretty hard in my opinion. We have our Fifa World Cup H/Q always up to date and we have split into teams of 4. So since there are 32 tems we are going to have one team for each child. It is really fun. we are betting each other in class who is going to win although some kids like B.C are really not happy They are always being wimps (in a funny way of course!!). S.V

Hi everyone! We are going to put on a play with some other stage 3 classes. Our singing and actions are a little muddled and I can't spend more than 30 minutes practicing it without yawning but it is a lot of fun. Tomorrow is the spelling and writing competitions! I feel nervous just thinking about it! We have to be at school by 7 o'clock to do the test. I better get to bed!

Hi guys long time no writing. It's me again. Today this girl called S.P (abbreviated form) has visited our school and classroom. She has come from India from an international school and she left last year from our school. This was really surprising. Also, today was the principals morning tea and a few people from our class went including me. I got a principals award, a parchment award and a $20 book voucher frm Angus and Robinson. Just in time with the holidays too! S.V

Today is the end of the financial year. Stores will be doing stocktakes and workers will be getting their group certificates so that they can fill in their income tax returns. This friday, we will start our holidays! YAY! After we come back to school, we will be going to Canberra and the snow for four days.

Today, some of our Year 6 students have exciting news. A.S. succeeded in getting into Baulkham Hills, C.P succeeded in getting into Girraween . A.H succeeded in getting into Normanhurst Boys. M.L succeeded in getting into Girraween and a reserve for Hornsby Girls High(12th).

19.7.10 During the holidays our teacher and our teacher librarian braved the cold and rain to watch Germany v Spain at the FIFA fan site at Darling Harbour at 4.00 am. Our feet were numb by the end. A German fan told us he was praying during the match. He was really sad.
20.7.10 AFL EXCITEMENT !!! We Won!!
Today we won an Imac suite from the competition to name the new GWS AFL team. Harry and William went up to collect the jersey of the new team and it was signed by Kevin Sheedy. We won because we had the most entries in our school. Kevin Sheedy CAME TO OUR SCHOOL! Our AFL teams had their photo taken with him. It was FANTASTIC! We'll love using the new IMAC for making movies and doing graphic work!

Hi to all those reading this blog. Today is the first day of term 3 and I think some children were a little disapointed about it. For homework we have to study some places that we are going to on our 4-day 3-night excursion, which is placed next week. I think that the next few weeks are going to be very exciting.

This slow motion photo is of the jesters and tumblers in our play. We had the dress rehearsal today and we will put on the play for our parents in Education Week. The rehearsal went really well. Our play is called The Dragon Returns.
Hi everybody. My class and other year five and six people went to canberra and we had a lot of fun. We went to many places . We went to Questacon and that was what i liked the best. Our teacher Mrs. M really needs some some sleep. Come back recently to our blog and check out the new things that are written.

Today, we finished our That Dragon Stage 3 performence whatever, whatever. It was nerve-racking to do it all in front of the parents who had attended. Another student came back from America - it was R.K. He went away in the holidays of term 1. He also got some chocolates back with him! S.V

Today, year 6 were Teachers For A Day. They were great. First up was AK, who taught us how to make modelling clay. Then AS and MP taught us haiku poetry. After that, we had health and PE with BC and CL. We played crab soccer and netball. This was followed by a fun drama lesson, where we acted out plays for each other. In the afternoon, we had Maths, taught by LB, CS and KD. They had made heaps of worksheets. We also had cupcakes for SC's birthday. It was a really good day!

Hi Guys! It's me again- S.V. On Sunday it's A.P's birthday party! I'm invited and so are my friends. And do u know what! NO GIRLS ALLOWED!!!! YIPEE! Guys, do u know that girls are so fussy! Shhh! Don't tell the girls! It's just between you and me. Anyway, see ya later!!-S.V
Hello, people. Well, I have something to say S.V. Girls are not always fussy. EG: Oh, when was the last time I cleaned my room? Hm... I'm pretty sure it was before that tyrannosaurus rex trampled over the flower bed. Ah... yes just before the big bang. Anyway, A.S's birthday on the weekend, Strictly no boys, they are much too irresponsible and not to metion immature . Well also, good luck B.K ! M

Today, CP did an awesome painting of the teacher. She is a fabulous artist. C.O. made some beautiful origami shapes yesterday. He took one of them to the principal.

That's it girls! You don't understand how impudent you are ( Mrs M, I'm sorry but what you did was to ladies , not girls!) Coming to think of it, this could be WW3! That would actually be funny. My mistake! This would actually be JRPSW1! Nah. I declare a truce right impudent girls. I mean lovely (NOT!) girls! S.V
SAME DAY
Hello to all the readers,
Thank you very much for rerading our blog and I hope it is very interesting how are class mates achieve awards. Our class has a lot of people who play instruments too; CY and KD play the violin, ML, ED, CZ and AG plays the piano, CO plays the saxophone, SS and AK plays the clarinet and finally CP, CS, LB and I play the flute... Yoops, I forgot SV! He plays the guitar and lately he's been insulting girls alot. Look how many people there are! 13 in a class of 31, that's nearly half! I am really proud of my class mates as well as myself being in this class. Also, have a look at some other pages too.

8.9.10 - You'll regret it S.V!
There is no going back S.V, you've declared war! You better watch out, the girls will get you... BOO! Haha, scared you. Anyway, don't worry we won't murder you yet... Actually, I remember lending you some Warrior Cat books. If I remember correctly you haven't finished all of them... (I'm addicted to going ... It's very dramatic. Well, as dramatic as you can get online)
Evil laugh: Mwah hah hah ha... (I suck at evil laughs. But, hey, I'm better than a BOY)
YOU KNOW WHO I AM!
If you seriously can't figure it out I'm the bestest (awesome word) reader in the class.
If you STILL can't remember I'm A.S
If you're still confuzzled (I love that word) you've got memory loss.

Me Again - 8.9.10
Hi, A.S again, I forgot to mention one of my poems was in the Monday Note. I feel warm and fuzzy inside... though that may be because my room has been warmed up and is way too hot. Plus, we've recieved the books we donated to the library to read. Yay! And my birthday party is on Saturday. Like M.L said above, no boys allowed... except maybe my brother. Unfortunately Mrs M won't be here (probably) for the rest of the term because her husband is having an operation. We'll miss her but we're not too sad she won't be around, we actually envy her because she can get away from B.C's general deafening loudness. And she promised us lollipops. Readers, if she denies all knowledge of her promise please stick by us poor, sweetless children, slaving away at school all day with only one thing driving us on: the thought of a tiny hard-earned lollipop that will only last a few minutes before we return to our mind-numbing English and head-ache inducing maths.

Hello readers,
this is the second time I am even writing this because I pressed something wrong and it made the whole paragaph I typed a few minutes ago, disappear. I really don't know what I pressed! At least I am not lazy to just quit. S.V! By the way, just back it up. Let's just all forget about the idiotic nonesense S.V brought up and change the point of view. I will just conclude the nonesense argument between the the boys and girls.
As you have read all this argument, I believe that this exposition is just pathetic and overly offensive. Therefore, this topic should not be held out again after this paragraph. If anybody brings this topic out again, everybody, just believe that the person has absolutely no maturity and sympathy....
Okay, well BYE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi guys! It's been AGES. And yes, I have passed on to a 'better place' known as highschool, where we watch anime in Japanese and it's considered learning, and where math teachers think it's there purpose to give us more and more homework. All in all, pretty cool.

Hi Guys, it's me S.V! It's been a long time! I'm currently attending high-school at GHS with M.L and C.Y! Having a great time.....I'm enjoying my school life apart from the fact that we get tons of projects, tests and h/w! No fun at all! Have to study Shakespearean plays like Midsummer's Night Dream, Taming of the Shrew, etc. Currently reading The Lord Of The Flies by William Golding! It's a pretty good book! C.O and C.P are in the grade above me! How are u all?! Long time no see!
